The United States have advanced from Group D at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as group winners, despite a late stumble in their final group match against Turkey.
Group D Results
The USA opened the tournament in spectacular fashion, routing Paraguay 4–1 on June 12 in what was one of the most commanding performances of the opening round. Alex Freeman was a surprise hero in the win, earning rave reviews for his display.
A 2–0 victory over Australia on June 19 confirmed the USA's place in the Round of 32. The hosts had enough in hand to rotate their squad for the final group game against Turkey on June 25, where they fell 3–2, but it mattered little — they still finished top of the group.
Turkey finished second in Group D and also advanced, while Australia picked up a point in their 0–0 draw with Paraguay to bow out on goal difference.
